We associate Tuscany with beautiful landscapes, delicious food and of course, fine wine. Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Chianti Classico are renown all around the globe.

However, we cannot forget about the magnificent wines that cannot be classified as DOC or DOCG, as they were not produced from the local Sangiovese, namely the Supertuscans. This group encapsulates the legendary Sassicaia.

Its beginning is marked by a dream of a student named Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta who wished to create a wine that could be equal to Bordeaux tipples. He was the one to plant first seedlings of Cabernet Sauvignon in Tuscany in 1944, and transport barrels for wine aging from Chateau Lafite in Pauillac.

Works on the wine lasted several years and in 1968 three thousand bottles of this legendary wine hit the market. From this time, Sassicaia is considered to be one of the best wines in the world. In 1978, the Decanter Magazine announced that this was the best Cabernet from among wines entered from 11 countries. In 1982 the Pocket Wine Book acclaimed this to be the best wine in the world.

Today, Sassicaia is produced in 85% from Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% from Cabernet Franc. The average age of the grapevine is 30 years. Annual production is 15 thousand crates. This small yield guarantees quality. Connoisseurs claim that Sassicaia tastes best between the 8th and 12th year of life.
