Over one million vineyards generate around 15% of global yield. In 2007, Italian wine makers have supplied the market with the impressive 4.7 billion hectolitres of wine.

This is a country of immense possibilities and great surprises. It produces wine in an outstandingly large number of varieties and of different quality. Those who adore the beauty of Italy can find interesting wine in every corner of this country, and upon their return home they will praise it as the best wine they have ever tasted.

Every region of Italy take pride in its own variety; to name some of the most famous: Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano from Tuscany; Franciacorta from Lombardia; Rosso Piceno from the Marche region; Barolo, Barbera d'Alba from Piedmont; Etna from Sicily; Bardolino, Amarone, Valpolicella from Veneto.

The basic grape varieties grown in Italy are:
